And just like that, all dreams of a S-Pen for the Galaxy S4 have been nixed. First rumored to actually come with the S-Pen (which we doubted), it now seems as if the functionality will not even be supported if you provide your own S-Pen.
Samsung did, however, introduce some cool new tech that works similar to the S-Pen, called Air View. Air View is able to know that you’re hovering your finger over a specific spot on the screen without any sort of touching. This is going to be used to pull up pop-up menus such as ones you get from a mouse’s right click action. Another new feature is called Air Gesture, which allows you to do things like swipe your hand in front of the screen, without touching, and move back and forth through lists or webpages.
You can also now have gloves on your hands, and the Galaxy S4 can still read touches. Because of all of this, it might not even be necessary to include an S-Pen, especially if you can get the same functionality out of a normal capacitive stylus with Air View.
At any rate, if you’re still going to get a Galaxy S4 when it’s released, there will still be a ton of accessories and cases available for it, with s4accessories.com leading the way for the most complete list of Galaxy S4 accessories.
And of course, if we do get word of an S-Pen becoming available for the Galaxy S4, we’ll be the first to let you know and get you the best deal!
